A History Lesson

The inspiration behind the project was inspired by real life events of Nakano Takeko (April 1847 - October 1868).

In Japan, towards the end of the samurai era, women were usually assigned traditional roles of staying home, cooking and tending the household. The thought of women being on the battlefield was out of the norm and frowned upon.

But Nakano Takeko went against those norms by taking up the role of a samurai herself. She went on to find and train more like minded women to be strong and become battle ready. She fought and died during the Boshin War in 1868.

In today's era, Nakano’s life and story is one that’s tied to bravery and courage. A statue of her was placed at Hokai Temple in her honor. Her actions are commemorated at the annual Aizu Autumn Festival. Every year, girls take part by wearing hakama and Shiro headbands in memory of Nakano and her army.

Disclaimer

Although our collection was born from the IDEA of Nakano Takeko and her army, many aspects of the project (traits & lore) are in NO WAY DEPICTED by the real life women who lost their lives fighting bravely during those times.

Our Rendition of The Story

The lore of Nakano takes place in a city called “Central”, which was founded by the leader of the city, Nakano Takeko. Central is the main city in which the Nakano Clan has built from nothing. The city’s main sources of power are their advanced technology, army and the location of the city. Compared to the rest of the world, Central is far more advanced.

The location of Central was strategically selected by the clan due to the area being rich in a single very important resource. This is why it was the perfect place to build a new and better future for her and her soldiers that have only experienced a war filled past.

Central thrives in technology This is thanks to all the resources found in the area — and has one of the strongest armies that has been seen in recent decades. They've won countless battles all because of her teachings — attributed from her tenacity and natural talent in combat.

Despite seeing that Central’s army is mostly women, there are men in Central as well. Men can be found mostly governing the city with politics and assisting with building the massive city.

Invaders and other opposing factions have often attempted to overthrow the city to claim the resources for themselves. But, none have succeeded… Not even close.

The advancements in Central’s scientific and high level technology, created by the minds in Central’s Research & Development sector — The Hive — are far too sophisticated for any one faction to face.

But the world is a big place…

There’s no telling who or what lies beyond the reaches that the citizens of Central have not yet explored.

The lore will start and develop in the future with our manga series.
